2-D Animation Fall '07

My idea for my final project revolves around a farmer who awakens in his rocking chair on the front porch of his small farm house to find crows eating his crop, so he quickly jumps out of his chair, grabs the shotgun resting beside it and attempts to blow away the birds. This does nothing but make the birds scatter and fly away, free to come back another day, so he creates a scare crow to alleviate the problem. The farmer looks outside the next day to see the birds back eating his crop and using the scarecrow as a perch. Fed up with the birds, he runs outside screaming and waving his arms. The birds group together and with their combined strength pick the farmer up and fly him away to the middle of the desert, allowing the birds to return to the farm and eat to their hearts content.

I am opting to do parenting instead of dialogue, because my idea works better silent. The parenting movement will be in a several parts, such as the birds pecking around on the ground, the farmer jumping out of his chair, raising the gun and shooting it, the farmer running outside waving arms, and the birds flying and picking up the farmer.

The characters (farmer, scarecrow, birds) will be drawn on water color paper because it has a nice texture which will hopefully come through once scanned into the computer and I plan on keeping the black and white drawings because I am going for a paper doll look. At the parented joints I plan on putting a brass fastener. The backgrounds will be in color, except possibly the farm house and rocking chair, which I may have to draw myself.
